Bank Holiday Bonanza

By Ellie Stephens

It’s our favourite time of year again… bank holiday! With no work on the Monday and an endless list of things to do where will you end up? The weather man has informed us that the rain will stop and the sun might put his party hat on but keep your rain coat at arms reach if you plan on stepping outside. The infamous Notting Hill Carnival promises to deliver spice, culture and creativity if you decide to head West. Make sure you pay a visit to the lovely Alice down at Cotton’s Islington food stall where you will find the most delicious Caribbean cuisine.

If you want to avoid the crowds but you are in the party spirit there are a number of daytime parties taking place in East London. Saturday we will be visiting Reset, a yard party held in Hackney Wick, Burnski is headlining and a number of brilliant local talent will be providing deep, soulful electronic grooves. The party starts at 4pm. See you in the Yard!

Sunday daytime sees Kubicle bringing the carnival to Brick Lane as they return to the Brick House. The fancy dress theme is carnival so we expect to see you with feathers and glitter galore. Kick off is 1pm DJs such as MEAT, Arnaud Le Texier and Jozif will be providing the tunes throughout the day and into the night as they take the party to Metropolis.

Eastern Electrics is where you will find the Concrete crew on Sunday night. Their bank holiday bonanza takes us south of the river to Union Street car park. For anyone who hasn’t been to this venue, it’s one of the most popular warehouse spaces in London, due to the amazing atmosphere that it always manages to sustain. There will be three rooms hosted by Mulletover vs. Kompakt Records, Dirtybird Records and Resident Advisor. Claude Vonstroke will be playing a very special set for the partygoers. Orbison, The Wighnomy Brothers and Mayer & Martin will also be delivering sets that will take us deep into the early hours of the morning.

We’ve made our point. Now all that’s left to say is… ‘Be there or be square.’
