These days it’s not about where you roll in the new year it’s about the first party of the year. The first party of 2011 where you need to be is No Fit State, presented to you by Murmur. After bringing you a number of sell out parties throughout 2010 it was only fair that they helped us celebrate the new year. Seth Troxler, Tensnake and Dyed Soundorom have all contributed to making the parties special and this party is no exception.

It’s been an busy year for him and we at Concrete are followers of his work, the man behind the label, Geddes will be playing alongside fresh faced french man, Shonky who’s known for producing tracks with a motto for getting your groove on at a party and the art of celebrating life. Shaun Reeves made the move from Detroit to Berlin and since doing so has risen in status in the world of house music. Reeves, known for his effortless, unrefined house sound has linked up with several labels over the years, but it’s his partnership with New York’s Wolf + Lamb that has nabbed him the most acclaim. Room two will be under strict control of London’s new East End party mafia, Bad Passion, who hold monthly, low-key, underground parties at various odd ball locations. 2010 saw the first musical release from Bad Passion on a remix package for A Mountain of One.

Rumour has it Murmur’s annual New Years Day parties are becoming a thing of legend so why not start as you mean to go on?

Happy New Year to everyone, thanks for all your support in 2010!

Tickets for this event are available at www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?203754

Winter has officially arrived. The days are shorter – for some reason I find them particularly short this year – my hands burn in the cold and the gingerbread lattes have once again returned to Star bucks in their festive red cups. But to warm up a wintery weekend the lovely people from cult style blog, ‘Yes Brian you look terrific’ and Shoreditch’s ultimate gift and design pit-stop Maiden will be creating their own pop-up winter wonderland for you to stock up on some lovely warm woolies.

Brian’s Winter Wonderland can be found in Maiden, 188 Shoreditch High Street and they promise to bring some of London’s best retro jewellery and vintage suppliers, along with hand-picked pieces such as Brian’s winter woollies, 80’s party frocks, coats, bags, boots and scarves. They have a weekend schedule and are inviting you down to take part in some of the events across the weekend:

Friday 12th November: Brian’s Tea Party features cakes, gin tea-pots and dressing up! Come down and get styled with your friend’s…the Brian way.

Saturday 13th November: Get crafty with the gang and come down and learn how to make your own unique Xmas decorations – and take them home ready to hang on the tree in a few weeks time.

Sunday 14th November: 90’s film club with free cupcakes and screenings of some of Brian’s favourite flicks, the perfect end to the weekend.

It’s fast approaching my favourite holiday of the year… Halloween! It’s one of the only times looking a mess is acceptable and it’s also the perfect excuse to get the creative juices flowing (not that we need one anyway.) I’ve chosen the party, the hard choice now is whether to go the kinky Mean Girls route or pay tribute to MJ by taking the Thriller option. Either way the fake blood is coming out to play.

This year you will find Concrete at Mulletover’s annual debauched, Halloween party. The line up this year features three rooms of spellbinding music. Mulletover’s Room One features Steve Bug, resident Geddes and Seth Troxler. Let’s hope Troxler watch’s out for the bats! Resolute hosts Room Two sees Ewan Pearson, Glimpse, Elon and Nisekay take the stage. Man Make Music will be providing sounds in Room Three and you will be able to catch Renaissance Man, Cooly G and Love & Mercy.

This years extravaganza sold out in record time, we bought our tickets back in August because we were so excited about our favourite night of the year. If you were one of the unlucky people who didn’t get a ticket, there is nothing I can say to make the pain go away. On the bright side, the lovely people at Mulletover have taken this into consideration and are bringing you Halloween – Part II.

Part II will feature DJs from the night plus a number of secret guests and with high expectations from us all, I have faith the guys at Mullet won’t fail to disappoint. They have secured a secret venue that isn’t the Star of Bethnal Green. If the Star after parties are anything to go by, it’s going to be a banger.

Bring out your inner devil, make suicide look sexy or go for fun fancy dress, just make the effort because you definitely don’t want to be the only one not in costume. The best costume I spot on the night will get a gory gift from yours truly and we’ll post their picture on our homepage alongside the review.

Please note all tickets have now sold out for Halloween part I but information can still be found here:

From Paris with Love, Ivan Smagghe will be hosting the next installment of London’s most personal parties, A Night With… With the success of previous parties with musical talent from around the world with the likes of Wolf and Lamb, Anja Schneider and Steve Bug, it was only fair that this legendary Frenchman was added to the line up.

We hope you are fully recovered from last weekends bank holiday antics in time for a very special event. A Night With… Anja Scneider sees her taking to the decks for an intimate performance for her most dedicated fans. Following the success of A Night With Steve Bug and The Wolf and Lamb experience it was only time until Anja’s name popped up on the bill. If you have not yet got your tickets for this event, stop procrastinating and do it. We were lucky enough to get to ask the oh so modest Anja, (we think she is the best female DJ around) a few questions so you know what you can expect on the night. Oh… and we’re also trying to persuade her to move to London!

How did you start?

Everything started with my radio show at Fritz in the year 2000. I was responsible for all the electronic music at the radio and then they asked me to do my own show. I was a bit afraid in the beginning but honestly it was the best thing what ever happened in my life. To play your favorite music for a lot of people and let them know about it. With my show I received then the first DJ request and so I started. Then of course I started Mobilee and had a concrete vision of my sound and of the sound of my artists.

Whats your favourite thing about being a DJ?

Def. not traveling! Airports Stations, Security checks, wasting time with waiting can be a big pain in the ass. But of course it’s a great honour to see all this different places around the world and getting to meet wonderful people. During the night its always the best if you can feel your own music and if you can get lost and take the people with you.

What’s it like being one of the most successful female DJs in the industry?

ha ha I dont see myself like this and I have a huge respect for all this other girls around me ! But I’m doing what I love and I really appreciate this. So there is no stress or pressure. It’s a lot of fun and a lot of responsibility in the same time. I’m happy that I can handle it and don’t see myself as too important. I just want us all have a good time together and if I can make some people happy with my music through Mobilee or sets then I m the happiest person on earth and I know there was something I did right!

What can the partygoers expect on A Night With… You?

A lot of fun and I hope that everyone has someone at the end of the night who they can kiss or hug!

What’s your favourite song of the moment?

And. id Isalos of course on Mobilee

London or Berlin?

I love both places a lot and I love coming to London as I have a lot of friends over there, but I m not sure if I could handle this stress in London. Berlin is more relaxed and easy going which fits more to my personality. But maybe I have to give it a try and live in London for a bit?!

Any upcoming projects?

I’m trying to work on a new album for next year which is quite difficult during the summer

Lastly, any messages for your fans?

Lots of love!

“The principle idea of Active Resistance is that you get out of life what you put in and that real experience of the world involves thinking” – Vivienne Westwood.

Vivienne Westwood Anglomania and Lee have teamed up to create an online installation ‘100 Days of Active Resistance.’ They are inviting members of the public to get creative by submitted an artwork or a photograph that they feel best represents Dame Vivienne’s idea of Active Resistance.

Starting on the 8th September one picture will be chosen for the following 100 days and compiled into an exhibition at the end. We are asking all of our readers to submit an image that they feel represents Active Resistance. It can be anything you like, a photograph, a slogan or a work of art. The chosen images will be showcased on www.ar100days.com and Vivienne Westwood will launch the website and the collaboration with an exhibition of her denim designs from past to present.

Be part of a project that draws away from the superficial and think about yourself and the world.

“It is not enough to follow world politics, see films and read the prize-winning best seller. This is superficial, you need to go deep in order to understand who you are, what the world is and how things could be better. This involves culture which can only be acquired by self-education: human beings should mirror the world.” – Vivienne Westwood
